Domestic cats (Felis catus) are the
most abundant carnivores in Great Britain. The species is a
descendant of the African Wild Cat, a close relative even today.
Ancient Egyptians held the domestic cat in high esteem and they were
often mummified with their owners. Romans brought cats back to
Italy and it is believed that they introduced the cat to the UK.In medieval Britain cats were often
tortured and burned as they were believe to be associated with witches
and the devil. |
